Fast Beauty Fixes You Can Find In Your Fridge

Hey, Barbizon of Akron! Are you looking for quick beauty remedies? How about ones that are natural? And, what if we were to tell you that you could probably find them in your fridge right now?!? That's right, keep reading to see some of our favorite, and most convenient, fast beauty fixes!

Pineapple- Have bags under your eyes? Keep yourself bright-eyed and bushy tailed by slapping a couple of pieces of pineapple under your eyes. The pineapple is packed with alpha-hydroxyl acids and bromelain which help to get rid of dead skin cells and tighten skin. Using pineapple that has been chilled will also help to remove puffiness as the cold will relieve inflammation.

Carbonated Water- Want to drastically reduce split ends? Carbonated water is your answer! Use it as a final rinse after conditioning. The pH levels help seal hair making it smoother and shinier when it's dry.

Ginger- Have a blemish or ingrown hair? Ginger may be just the cure for you! The acids in its juice help to eliminate dead skin and residue which reduces inflammation, blemishes and pores. To accomplish this, peel the root and rub the raw stick directly onto the pimple or bump. It will exfoliate and balance the pH of the skin.

Pomegranate- Pomegranate is packed full of nutrients that regulate sebum and helps regenerate
cells. Blend the juice and seeds with almond or oat milk [in a 1:1 ratio]. Massage the mixture on the face, neck, and hands for three to five minutes, then rinse with lukewarm water. It has exfoliation and anti-inflammatory effects so the skin will be calmer and glowing after.

Sweet Potato- Looking for a face mask that will help your skin's elasticity and unclog pores? A, B, and C that help improve the texture and tone of the skin. Boil a sweet potato and then mash it into a paste. It makes a wonderful mineral mask.Wear it for 10 minutes, then rinse and moisturize. Bonus tip: Use the leftover water as a toner. It contains nutrients that help clear clogged complexions and improve elasticity.

Runway Nail Designs

Hey, Barbizon of Akron. As you know, fashion week tends to be all about the clothes... But did you know that backstage, nails are all the rave? Below are some of our favorite and most easy to execute designs. Check them out and try them yourself!

Tweed Inspired Design: These tweed inspired nails are true abstract art! And the lines don't have to be perfect, so this is one of the easiest designs to execute. Try them in all different colors! These nails were done for the ICB x Prabal Gurung show.

Metallic Half-Moons: Tadashi Shoji was coming on strong with this bold and metallic look! This half-moon mani features metallic tips which really catch the eye. Use a neutral base to really make the half-moons and tips pop!

"Nude": BCBG knows that sometimes the way to make a statement is to keep it simple! Two coats of a soft neutral color is all it takes. And more good news? This look compliments every skin tone!

Grunge: Tess Giberson is one designer who has rocked the distressed/ grunge look well! These nails look edgy and are SUPER easy to do! Simply apply one coat of black nail polish (galaxy flakes optional) and then gently wipe off the polish using a makeup sponge. It will leave color around the cuticles and a few streaks down the nails.

Peek-a-Boo Color- We absolutely love these nails done for Honor in NYC. This über-girly look has a cool, retro feel, and that pink polish is absolutely perfect! If you wait for the red base to dry, you'll only need one coat of the pink on top, which makes it easier to get a perfect oval. Not a girly girl? Try two tones of blue or any other color combination you like!

Hate Mornings a Little Less!

Hey, Barbizon of Akron! If you love sleep, the feeling is inevitable... You hate mornings... Well, we did some research, and here are some tips to help you hate mornings a little less!

Sound a Different Alarm: A blaring "brrrrng!" will get the job done—but it'll jolt you up on the wrong side of the bed. Change your wake-up call to something a little more pleasant. What about a rise-and-shine playlist? The pleasure centers of your brain love music, so playing your favorite songs will help you feel happier and more alert. Waking up with Beyoncé or Miley = instant energy!

Natural Light- It's nature's alarm clock! Your brain is naturally stimulated by light waves, even with your eyes closed. If you can, leaving the curtains or blinds open can help you wake up in the morning.

Keep Flowers on Nightstand- In the same way a delivery of beautiful blooms lifts your spirits, seeing fresh flowers first thing in the morning is proven to boost your mood. Researchers at Harvard University found that when people saw a bouquet upon waking they reported feeling happier and more energetic. Even a single daisy on your dresser can do the trick (and looks super sweet, as an added bonus!).

Drown Grogginess- To kick-start your energy, begin your day with a giant drink of water. Your body becomes slightly dehydrated over night, so hydration is essential to get your metabolism going in the morning. Gulping down a glass of H2O as soon as you roll out of bed will lead to increased flow of oxygen, renewed energy levels, and increased alertness. All-around win.

Wake up and smell the... Oranges?- Starbucks may smell like morning to you, but citrus aromas like orange, lemon, and grapefruit will give your brain a wake-up call. Getting a whiff of the fruit increases alertness and energy levels, so starting your day with a juicy body wash and lotion will really punch up your morning.

Spring 2014 Hair Trends

We at Barbizon of Akron know that after a dreary winter, it's fun to spice things up for springtime! Spruce up your 'do with these great styles to keep looking fresh for the new season. Great hair is the best way to top off a polished appearance!

Low Pony- The low ponytail is certainly making a comeback. It was all over the runways, and is so easy to wear, that it can easily be introduced to any beauty routine. A low pony lets you have the control of a regular ponytail while still showing off the length of your hair.

Long and Straight- Rather than straightening hair, this 2014 trend looks better when hair is simply blow dried straight. Is you hair not perfectly straight? That's fine, the texture adds some personality to the look. Rock it with a center part to get the "model off duty" vibe. Best thing: the wispy finish ensures no harshness for any face shape or complexion.

Bobs- That's right, the bob is back and taking the runways by storm! With styles ranging from slick and smooth to choppy and textured, you can find a bob to fit your personality and face shape, no problem!

Mid-Length Cuts- Growing out a bob or tired of super long lengths? Try out a mid-length cut. They require minimal styling and can be worn in most up-do's.

Accessorize- Spring 2014 is the perfect time to really accessorize your hair! Get creative; from floral garlands to pretty headbands and scarves, there is an option to change up your look everyday! Having a bad
hair day? A scarf or headband is the perfect, low-effort way to turn it all around!
